Dr.  Yifang Ban is the Professor of Geoinformatics and the Head of the Geoinformatics Division at the Department of Urban Planning and Environment at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden.  She received a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo in Canada in 1996, and a B.Sc. and M.Sc. at Nanjing University in China in 1984 and 1987 respectively.  Before joining KTH in 2004, Dr. Ban was a tenured professor at York University in Toronto, Canada.  Her current research interests include multisensor satellite data fusion for urban landuse/land-cover mapping and change detection; assessing the impact of landuse/land-cover changes on the urban environment using landscape metrics; and investigation of spatial-temporal models to determine the geographic extent, patterns, and classes of future urban growth.
